Calculation

Formula: RH = (V - V₀)/S

RH: Relative humidity;

V: Voltage value corresponding to the measured substance's activity;

V₀: Zero-point value;

S: Slope value.

Substitute the activity values of saturated potassium nitrate and saturated sodium chloride solutions, along with the existing zero point and slope values, into the formula to determine the voltage values V_(potassium) and V_(chloride) for measuring potassium nitrate and sodium chloride activities:

90.3 = (V_(potassium) − 0.848) / 0.030726, V_(potassium) = 3.60 V;

80.5 = (V_(chloride) − 0.848) / 0.030726, V_(chloride) = 3.32 V.

 

Calculate the new slope and zero-point values:

Standard activity values: RH K = 93.6% RH Cl = 75.3%

From the formula: S = (V_(K+2) − V_(Cl)) × 1000 / (RH_(K+2) − RH_(Cl))

1) S_(new) = (V_(K+2) − V_(Cl)) × 1000 / (93.6 − 75.3)

= (3.60 − 3.32) × 1000 / 18.3

= 15.30

2) Substituting into formula RH = (V - V₀)/S: S/1000 = 0.01530,

RH Potassium = 93.6 V Potassium = 3.60V

4.25 - New V₀ = 93.6 × 0.01530

New V₀ = 2.82V

Enter the new slope S=15.30 and new zero point V0=2820 mV into the host computer to complete calibration. Specifically, repeat step (1) by modifying the instrument settings: change 848.00 to 2820.00 and 30.726 to 15.30, thereby finalising calibration.
