Brief Instructions for Using DIN Cups

Designed in accordance with the DIN 53211 standard, these cups are typically suitable for testing low-viscosity liquids; they are widely used in Europe. Viscosity dip cups are used for rapid measurements in the field or during production processes. These cups are frequently used in the printing and ink industries. Simply immerse the viscosity cup into the product to be tested, then lift it out and measure the time required for the product to drain out through the orifice. The measured kinematic viscosity is typically expressed in seconds—the time required for the product to flow out—and can be converted to centistokes (cSt).

Main Technical Parameters:

Inner diameter of orifice: 4mm±0.02mm

Cup Volume 100±1ml

Material: Cup—aluminum alloy; Orifice—stainless steel

Outflow Hole Diameter: 4mm

measuring range:96 - 693cSt

Flow Time:20-110sec

Instructions for Use:

1. Wipe the cup clean with an appropriate solvent before and after use.

2. Immerse the cup in the container for 1 to 5 minutes to allow it to reach thermal equilibrium. Then lift the cup vertically out of the sample; this action must be performed quickly and smoothly.

3. Start timing when the top of the cup clears the liquid surface. Keep the cup vertical while the liquid flows out, maintaining a distance of no more than 150 mm from the liquid surface.

4. Stop the timer when the first break occurs; the difference between the two measured values should be less than 5% of the average value.

The portable DIN cup is manufactured in accordance with the DIN 53211 standard, “DIN Cup for Determining Flow Time in the Testing of Paints, Coatings, and Similar Coating Materials.”
